Drivetrain Options in the 2020 Ford Explorer SUV
There are two drivetrain options for anyone considering the 2020 Ford Explorer. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard for every 2020 Ford Explorer and is all-new to the model. With RWD, you ride will feel sportier, offer enhanced performance, and be able to tow 600 more pounds than with front-wheel drive.
The other option is the available Intelligent Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) with Terrain Management System™. The Terrain Management System is all-new for the Explorer. With this system, you will be able to tackle a variety of terrains, including snow, sand, rain, and more. Choose from seven drive modes, including Normal, Eco, Trail, Deep Snow/Sand, Slippery, Sport, and Tow/Haul. If you choose Intelligent 4WD, you will get the available 12.3” digital cluster display with HD 3D graphics.
Towing Capabilities
Standard on the 2020 Ford Explorer, trailer sway control automatically brakes and adjusts engine power to keep your trailer stable. Looking to tow a very heavy trailer? When properly equipped, the 2020 Ford Explorer can tow up to 5,600 pounds.
Want to add the Class III Trailer Package to your 2020 Ford Explorer? This package is available with the 2.3L EcoBoost® and 3.3L hybrid engines. If you choose an Explorer with the 3.0L EcoBoost® engine, this package will be standard.
