Sheehy Auto Stores has been proudly serving the communities of our many locations since 1966. Sheehy has given back to multiple not for profits in Washington D.C., Baltimore, Richmond and surrounding areas. Scroll down to learn about organizations we have donated to recently and some that we have donated to in the past. There are many organizations that we are involved with annually and we encourage you to get involved as well! The more we all give back, the better the communities we live will be.
At Sheehy Auto Stores, we believe in the power of education to shape the future. We recognize that there are many families in our local communities that face challenges as they prepare their children for the school year. To help ease the burden for those families, our dealerships all participated in our annual Sheehy School Supplies Drive. Our dealerships collected all sorts of school supplies from July 17th to August 7th, 2023 and donated them to local schools in their community. We’re so proud of all our dealerships for helping teachers and families in their local communities.
The donations that our stores collected impacted so many different families. We’re proud to have donated to the following charities: Ronald McDonald House of Northern Virginia, Forest Oak Middle School’s Linkage to Learning Program, Weems Elementary School, JP Ryon Elementary School, Garfield Elementary School, Groveton Elementary School, Brookfield Elementary School, Dogwood Elementary School, Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, Spotswood Elementary School, Ruth Ann Moore Primary School, Kids in Need Foundation and ACES (Ashland Christian Emergency Services).
We’re thrilled to announce that all 3 of our Sheehy Subaru stores participated in the Subaru Loves Learning program this year! Each year, millions of students in high-needs schools lack the supplies and learning materials necessary to be successful in their studies and in the classroom. Many students’ families simply can’t afford to buy the basic school supplies their kids need. To bridge this gap, teachers across America are having to buy various supplies using their own money. In an effort to help support students and teachers, Subaru of America created the Subaru Loves Learning program.
Subaru Loves Learning is a national initiative in which Subaru dealerships across the country partner with a local public school and donate school supplies to that school. The local schools that our Subaru stores supported this year were Garfield Elementary School (Sheehy Subaru of Springfield’s partner school), Spotswood Elementary School (Sheehy Subaru of Fredericksburg’s partner school) and Ruth Ann Monroe Primary School (Sheehy Subaru of Hagerstown’s partner school). We’re so proud of our Subaru stores for stepping up and helping kids and teachers in their local communities.
Grab your smartwatch and lace up those walking shoes because Wednesday April 5th is National Walking Day! National Walking Day is a day dedicated to getting up and getting moving. Throughout this day the American Heart Association is encouraging everyone to take a few minutes out of their busy day to go for a walk and get some steps in.
Physical activity is crucial for maintaining a long and heart healthy life. In fact, according to the American Heart Association the average adult should be getting at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity every week. Getting 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity every week can feel daunting but it doesn’t have to be! Moderate intensity physical activity includes fast paced walking, dancing, water aerobics, or going for a leisurely bike ride. The important thing is to simply get moving and to elevate your heart rate. With moderate intensity physical activity you should still be able to hold a conversation but your heart should be beating faster and you should be breathing harder than normal. If you’re looking to start your journey to living a healthier life, let National Walking Day be your motivator! Grab your friends, co-workers, neighbors, or family and go for a walk during the day, or make a plan to go to a workout class at your gym. Having people go on this journey to a heart healthier lifestyle makes it so much easier to stay committed.
This year for National Walking Day all our Sheehy Auto Stores locations will be competing against each other for an all-day step challenge! Each store will receive a couple pedometers from the American Heart Association and they are going to be walking all day to try and rack up as many steps as possible. We’re also going to be having a National Walking Day event at The St. James in Springfield Virginia! If you or your family are members of The St. James, we’d love for you to come join us from 9am until 12pm for a full day of heart healthy activities. There will be a heart healthy workout class, a healthy eating demonstration at The St. James’s café Vim & Victor, CPR demonstrations and a walking tour of the state-of-the-art workout facility! Whether you come to one of these activities or all these activities, we hope you can join us for some of these National Walking Day festivities. If you can’t join us in person for these activities, you can join us virtually! Simply post on your social media or to the American Heart Association of Greater Washington’s social media accounts (using the hashtag #sheehyhasheart) the different ways you’re staying active and moving.
Sheehy Subaru donated blankets and coloring kits to children at the Schar Cancer Institute as part of the Subaru Loves to Care initiative. As part of this initiative Subaru retailers across the country donate to various cancer centers in their backyards. These donations support kids and families during the hardest moments in their lives. Subaru of Springfield chose the Schar Cancer Institute as their partner because they are an affiliate of Inova and a state-of-the-art cancer center in the Washington DC area. They help hundreds of people every year and we’re so thrilled that Sheehy Subaru was able to help the institute and the people they support. We know that these donations will make these kids feel special and help them as they fight for their lives.
In 2022, Sheehy Hagerstown partnered with WDVM and their Gift of Giving Program to support the many charitable organizations and nonprofits in their Hagerstown communities. As a part of this partnership, WDVM connects Sheehy Hagerstown with various non-profit organizations in the community in need of additional assistance. Each month, Sheehy Hagerstown works with a different non-profit in the community, providing them with a $1,500 donation or $1,500 worth of needed supplies. Throughout 2022, Sheehy Hagerstown donated to the Education Foundation of WCPS, Boys and Girls Club of Washington County, Reach of Washington County, and the HomeSweetHome Foundation.
Education Foundation of WCPS
The Education Foundation of WCPS is a nonprofit organization comprised of parents, business, civic leaders, and WCPS staff that works to enhance education for all students in Washington Public Schools. They work to provide resources to educators and schools that support innovative teaching and learning. Sheehy Hagerstown recently donated $1500 towards their Innovative Grants program that provides funds to teachers for their innovative and creative educational projects. This program allows educators to think outside the box and provide an enriching and exciting learning experience to their students. Some past winners have been for chemistry model kits, a high school advanced hair and skin analysis project, a 3D printing and cortical vision impairment project, and a picnic tables with a purpose project. The Innovative Grants program has been around for over 10 years, and we’re so excited that Sheehy Hagerstown was able to be a part of funding these fun educational projects.
Boys and Girls Club of Washington County
The Boys and Girls Club of Washington County is a non-profit organization dedicated to enabling all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. They provide a safe place for children to learn and grow, build ongoing relationships with caring adult professionals, and participate in life-enhancing programs and character development experiences. These experiences focus on a variety of things including academics, character and leadership and health and well-being. Sheehy Hagerstown was able to donate $1500 to The Boys and Girls Club of Washington County to support summer camp scholarships and additional operational expenses of the organization. We’re so happy to support an organization that is helping the most vulnerable of our children to grow into thoughtful and productive members of our Hagerstown community.
Reach of Washington County
Reach of Washington County is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support and strengthen the community by preventing and resolving homelessness in Washington County. They work to empower individuals and families to move towards independence and stability through compassion, education, and advocacy resources. They have been serving Washington County for 32 years through their various programs. These programs range from providing a safety net for people to providing them with full independence. They offer a cold weather shelter for homeless adults, case management, a day resource center, Bridge to Change, and financial assistance for those facing crises as well as financial literacy courses. They help about 3,000 people a year in Washington County, and we’re thrilled we were able to help further their cause by donating $1500 to the organization. This donation went towards helping secure housing and government IDs for over 20 people.
HomeSweetHome Foundation
The HomeSweetHome Foundation is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping bridge the gap from childhood to adulthood for youth aging out of the foster care system. They help foster youth between the ages of 16-26 transition into adulthood by providing housing, financial literacy, mental health aid and connection to various resources in the Hagerstown community. As foster youth age out of the foster care system, they aren’t provided with the resources they need to be able to live full and productive lives. HomeSweetHome Foundation works to be a lifeline for foster youth who need help as they transition into their adult lives. Sheehy Hagerstown donated $1500 worth of supplies for the Feather Boxes that the HomeSweetHome Foundation hands out to young adults in need of supplies for their first home. These kits come with comforters, pots and pans, dishes, towels, trash cans, and other important items that people need when moving into their first house or apartment.
Sheehy Nissan of White Marsh donated lunches to two different police precincts in the Baltimore area through the Lunch for LEO’s program. Lunch for Leo’s is an organization that is dedicated to providing local law enforcement with a catered lunch every two weeks. The mission of Lunch for LEO’s is to show support for our women and men in blue by honoring them with a fully catered meal worthy of their service. Sheehy Nissan of White Marsh has participated in this program for two weeks in a row and we love how they are supporting their local police departments! It’s the little things like a free catered meal that make all the difference in someone’s day.
In February of 2022, Sheehy Ford of Springfield partnered with Catholic Charities Diocese of Arlington to hold a Love Your Neighbor food drive! They promoted bringing in non-perishable foods and canned goods to Sheehy Ford of Springfield and to the local Springfield and Arlington communities throughout this food drive. All collected food went to support the St. Lucy Food Project. The St. Lucy Food Project is run by the Catholic Charities and provides food resources through deliveries and local pantries to those who are in need in the community. Sheehy Ford of Springfield kicked the event off with a ton of donations that were provided by the store. The event was a huge success and we’re so happy that Sheehy Ford of Springfield was able to help the most vulnerable populations in their communities.
Sheehy Subaru of Springfield was recently honored with the Subaru Love Promise Community Commitment Award! This award nationally recognizes Subaru dealerships throughout the country who are making the world a better place while demonstrating an outstanding commitment to supporting causes in their local communities. Our Subaru of Springfield dealership won this award for their many charitable contributions and donations to different organizations throughout the year including but not limited to their donation of non-perishable and canned food to ECHO, their toy donation to the Salvation Army, their donation of school supplies to Forestdale Elementary School, their blanket donation to local shelters, and their donation of $90,172 to the Inova Emergency Preparedness Fund.
The COVID-19 Pandemic has put a huge strain on families and individuals in our communities. Pre-pandemic many food banks were struggling to feed everyone who relied on them and with so many more people now relying on food banks, they are struggling even more. Food Banks never want to turn anybody away but with the influx of people relying on them to eat, they have unfortunately had to turn people away. At Sheehy Auto Stores, we strive to do everything we can help our communities in any way that we can. All our Sheehy Auto Stores dealerships have been working very hard to help their local food banks and ensure that everyone who needs assistance in their communities receives it.
n April, Patriot Harley-Davidson held a virtual food drive to raise money for Food For Others. Food For Others is a non-profit that distributes over 2,000 meals to people in need in the Fairfax area. The work they do helps countless families and which is why Patriot Harley - Davidson chose to help them during this difficult time.
Throughout this pandemic, Sheehy Ford of Warrenton has been working around the clock to help provide their local food bank, Fauquier FISH, with food they desperately need. Because of the pandemic, food banks across the country are struggling to keep their warehouses stocked. Fauquier FISH has been relying on the community and Sheehy Ford of Warrenton has stepped up in a big way. They’ve been continuing to make food drop offs so students in the Warrenton area can always have a meal.
Sheehy Ford of Gaithersburg has partnered with Women Who Care Ministries to deliver 1,000 meals to children in need in the Gaithersburg area. Every Friday a few employees take two trucks to go deliver meals to various schools in the area so that children in need of food can have healthy meals. There are so many families and children who rely on the school system for breakfast and lunch so we’re thrilled that Sheehy Ford of Gaithersburg has continued to step up and help so many children and families in need.
Sheehy Ford of Warrenton and Sheehy Nissan of Manassas teamed up with the St. Lucy Food Project and various food banks throughout the area to help deliver and distribute much needed food supplies. The St. Lucy group works with different food banks throughout Fairfax, Prince William, and Fauquier Counties.
Recently, Sheehy Subaru of Hagerstown donated $14,151 to the Humane Society of Washington County as part of the Subaru Share the Love Event. During this year’s Share the Love Event, Sheehy Subaru of Hagerstown worked incredibly hard to sell as many vehicles as possible so they could help as many animals as possible at the Humane Society of Hagerstown.
Every year throughout the Subaru Share the Love event Sheehy Subaru of Springfield raises money for Inova Children’s Hospital. That was the plan again this year, but with the outbreak of COVID-19 Sheehy Subaru of Springfield and Inova thought it best to give the $90,172.34 to the Inova Emergency Preparedness Fund. The Emergency Preparedness Fund provides funds to help cover additional staffing needs at the hospital, to buy specialized equipment needed to help COVID-19 patients and additional resources to help patients and medical professionals at the hospital during these ever changing times. We’re so happy that Sheehy Subaru of Springfield was able to help the Inova Emergency Preparedness Fund. We’re sure that money will go a long way in helping current and future COVID-19 patients as well as the medical professionals on the front line of this disease.
Throughout October of 2020, Sheehy Toyota of Stafford donated a total of $66,000 to three different organizations in their community. This year has been especially hard on everyone because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The negative effects of the pandemic have affected our communities in so many different ways, especially for families and children. Understanding the hardships that many families and children are facing right now Sheehy Toyota of Stafford decided to step up and do their best to make a positive change in their community.
Sheehy Toyota of Stafford recently donated $20,000 to Capital Caring. They are a non-profit that help provide hospice care, grief counseling and so much more in the Stafford community. This year half of the funds will be used to support Capital Caring’s in-home pediatric palliative and hospice services for children who are seriously ill. These funds will also go towards providing grief and loss support to children who have lost a loved one. The other half of this donation is supporting Capital Caring’s efforts to support children during the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to keep the children they support as safe as possible Capital Caring has limited their in-home visits to emergencies only. Instead of doing in-home check-ups, the pediatric medical staff are using a Bluetooth enabled tablet and biometric equipment to monitor these children’s vitals and symptoms. This equipment is very expensive but is helping so many children throughout this pandemic. Additionally, these funds are also providing fresh meal deliveries that include disease-specific nutritious meals and custom “Making Meaning Kits.” These kits are sent to each pediatric patient and bereaved child/family and include handprint/footprint keepsake memories of family members who have passed, age-appropriate expressive and informational kits, journals, books, toys, links to community supports, invitations for virtual connections for support, and links to music and pet therapy.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic Capital Caring has received an increased number of requests for grief support and counseling. The pandemic has made grieving and losing loved ones particularly hard as people are often not able to be with their loved ones as they say goodbye, are having to be socially isolated, and are having trouble finding closure. The support and programs that Capital Caring provides is especially important this year which is why Sheehy Toyota of Stafford chose to donate to them. The donation was able to make such an impact on the lives of so many young children fighting for their lives or experiencing grief.
Stafford Food Security Inc. is a non-profit that supports children and families experiencing food insecurity in Stafford County. They partner with all Stafford County Public Schools and Spotsylvania County and send meals home with children if a teacher identifies them as food insecure. In the past, a teacher would identify a child as food insecure and Stafford Food Security Inc. would send this child home with a non-descript backpack with food to feed their family dinner. Since the COVID-19 pandemic has forced schools to stay closed, Stafford Food Security Inc. has had to find different ways to feed families in need in the community. Earlier this summer they started doing community cookouts where they would provide hot meals to family and children in need. They even got a few local food trucks to help volunteer at these community cookouts. Having these food trucks help during these community cookouts was a huge help as it was becoming difficult to coordinate the logistics of keeping food hot or cold, delivering supplies, cooking the food and delivering the food in a timely manner. Since they couldn’t always rely on local food trucks to help during these cookouts, Stafford Food Security Inc. decided to buy their own food truck! Having this food truck will not only make it easier to coordinate the logistics of their community cookouts, but it will also enable them to provide better food and feed more people. Without the food truck, Stafford Food Security Inc. was able to feed about 2,000 people per month but with the food truck they are estimating they will be able to feed about 3,000 people a month. In order to help them buy this food truck, Sheehy Toyota of Stafford donated $10,000 to Stafford Food Security Inc. With this donation, Sheehy Toyota of Stafford is going above and beyond to help feed food insecure families and children during this pandemic. To date Stafford Food Security Inc. has served over 10,000 meals during the COVID-19 pandemic and we can’t wait to see that number skyrocket as soon as they get their food truck up and running!
Sheehy Toyota of Stafford recently donated $26,000 to support Stafford County Public Schools’ Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs and the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) programs. This donation will remove the financial barriers that would limit disadvantaged students from enrolling in CTE courses. The CTE programs prepare students for their future career paths through project-based learning and work-based learning. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to start thinking about and planning their futures. Additionally, the donation will help the ESOL Welcome Center assist the English language learner students and families with student fees, will help provide additional resources for support and will help create family workshops and classes. The Stafford County Public School system is incredibly diverse as it services over 29,000 students from 266 countries across 33 schools in Stafford County. Both the CTE program and ESOL program help prepare students for their futures by giving them the tools and resources to succeed in life. We’re so happy that Sheehy Toyota of Stafford is helping to bridge the financial gap for so many Stafford County students, so everyone can have equal access to the resources they need to prepare for their future.
On October 18th, Sheehy Subaru of Hagerstown held a socially distant pet adoption event in conjunction with the Humane Society of Washington County. From 11AM-3PM people in the Hagerstown community flocked to the dealership to find their new fur-ever family member. To help entice people to adopt a dog or cat that day the Humane Society (with a grant from the ASPCA) waived all cat adoption fees, dropped the dog adoption fees down to $50 and included a free soft cat carrier, and free dog collar, leash and pre-engraved ID tag with every dog or cat adoption! The event was a huge success with 16 cats and 7 dogs finding their new families! Sheehy Subaru of Hagerstown was able to partner with the Humane Society of Washington County as part of the Subaru Loves Pets initiative, to help tons many animals find their new home.
Every year Stratford Landing Elementary School holds a Rock n’ Fun event that includes a Rock n’ Run fun run. In the past this Rock n’ Fun event and specifically the Rock n’ Run fun run is a way that the kids can fundraise some money for their school while getting some exercise in. Kids would raise money and then celebrate by running or walking laps around the track. This year unfortunately the kids won’t be able to have the Rock n’ Run event in person, but they will be able to participate in a virtual Rock n’ Run fun run as well as some other fun challenges and events. Sheehy Honda proudly supports Stratford Landing Elementary School and this Rock n’ Run fun run. Sheehy Honda is passionate about helping to support their local schools and encouraging kids to get active. Their support of this event is helping to get these kids on a heart healthy path early in their lives
Sheehy Ford of Springfield’s Service and Parts Manager, Shane Mullins’ adopted dog Maggie recently received a certificate from Caring Angels Therapy Dogs. Caring Angels Therapy Dogs is a non-profit that helps to provide therapy dogs to help with people in assisted living facilities, hospices, fire stations, schools and more! These therapy dogs help members of our armed forces and first responders at home with PTSD and stress and help children in schools who are struggling to learn how to read or simply need comfort and support. There is no limit to how these dogs can help, and Caring Angels Therapy Dogs and their volunteers are always looking to help anyone they can in the Northern Virginia community.
Maggie is truly an exceptional dog and has overcome so much in her lifetime. We’re so proud of her and so thrilled that Shane was able to adopt her and give her such an amazing life.
“She was a rescue I received when she was 10 weeks old. She was very sick and so malnourished that it stunted her growth. So, she’s my puppy for life. Maggie started with “Sit Means, Sit” dog training. This is a program that I learned how to train her on commands, and we became a team. She learned how to place on any object and stay until called. How to go up and down stairs without pulling and so much more. Once she passed the class, her next certification was the American Kennel Club’s “Canine Good Citizen”. This was a test to ensure Maggie was good out in public, great with other dogs, well behaved, trained and is able to stay in place even if I am not close to her. After this award we did a lot of training out in public and at the Sit Means Sit training facility. Maggie showed a natural ability with those with special needs, those with PTSD and truly with anyone she came in contact with and that’s why I knew she would be a great Therapy Dog. Once we were asked to become part of the Caring Angel’s team, she and I started even more training. We went for our testing on the 16th, and just as I suspected, Maggie passed with flying colors. The test included Maggie interacting at a restaurant, working with people in wheelchairs and walkers. Maggie has trained with patients in hospital bed and has laid down while a child reads and talks to her. We have been to a mall and had a few meeting and greetings people. There she also enjoyed riding the elevator and escalator. I say all of this because out of all the places we have been together for the testing, what truly blew my mind in an amazing way was that her favorite place to visit was the Firehouse. Her spirit and energy were truly felt by the fighters and she loved their full-on gear. She had no issue with all the alarms or the trucks going around her. She truly looked as though she belongs there as family. The fire house is where she will be doing her community service very soon and I know she is going to make a difference in the energy in such a very stressful environment. It is no secret that when researching the suicide rate amongst our fire fighters and first responders during this time, it has truly skyrocketed. In the recent week, the Virginia area we have lost five firefighters to suicide. After learning and knowing Maggie loved it there, I knew this is where she needed and needs to be.” – Shane
We’re thrilled that Maggie was able to get certified to help those in her community. Click here to learn more about Caring Angels Therapy Dogs.
For 22 years, Hyundai Motor America and Hyundai dealerships across the country have devoted themselves to helping kids fight various forms of childhood cancer. For every new vehicle sold at a Hyundai dealership, a donation is made to help fight cancer. Thousands of children each year are diagnosed with pediatric cancer and begin the fight for their lives. The money that these Hyundai dealerships, including Sheehy Hyundai of Waldorf, provide goes towards research that advances our knowledge of how to fight the pediatric cancer. This year Sheehy Hyundai of Waldorf and the other Northern Virginia Hyundai dealerships raised $300,000 that was donated to the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer center.
Hyundai Motor America understands that children are our future, which is why they’ve been working so hard throughout the years to help doctors and researchers fight childhood cancer. This year, the Hyundai Hope on Wheels initiative is especially important as COVID-19 continues to threaten the lives of everyone in our country and especially these kids fighting cancer. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hyundai Hope on Wheels donated 4.4 million dollars in grants to various children’s hospitals and other research institutions to help in the fight against COVID-19. These funds have been used to create safe drive thru testing facilities so pediatric cancer patients can get tested in a safe environment.
As the leaves change colors and the it starts to cool down outside, all of us at Sheehy Auto are gearing up for our Annual Fall Food Drive! From October 5th to October 25th all 29 Sheehy Auto Stores dealerships will be collecting canned goods and other non-perishable foods that will be delivered to local food banks, non-profits and other community organizations.
Now, more than ever, it’s incredibly important that we support our local food banks and other non-profit organizations that help people and families experiencing food insecurity. According to Feeding America, food insecurity is defined as a household’s inability to provide enough food for each member to live a healthy and active life. While we had been successfully lowering the rate of food insecure families in 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused food insecurity to rise at an astounding rate. According to Feeding America, food insecurity has the potential to affect an additional 17.1 million people in the United States this year. That equates to half of the population of people living in food-insecure households in all of 2019!
As food insecurity quickly rises, food banks and other non-profit organizations are becoming stretched thin and struggling to meet their demand. For these reasons, we’re asking everyone in our local Richmond, Fredericksburg, Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Baltimore, Annapolis and Hagerstown communities to donate non-perishable food and canned goods. All 29 of our dealerships will have donation boxes set up in their showrooms, and you don’t need to make an appointment to donate. Simply stop by any of the locations listed below with non-perishable food or canned goods. By working together, we can all help to feed the growing number of food insecure individuals in our communities.

Sheehy Auto Stores is a strong supporter of all our first responders, especially our healthcare workers. During this crazy time in history, they are the ones putting their lives on the line to protect us and fight against COVID-19. To help support all our healthcare workers in our many communities we’re offering 50% off all vehicle and maintenance services (up to a maximum $500 discount). This offer applies to any make or model and is valid throughout the month of May to any healthcare worker that shows a valid medical ID.
We’re all incredibly grateful for the risks that our healthcare workers are taking to protect us. Whether you’re working in Richmond, Washington D.C., Northern Virginia, Baltimore MD or Annapolis MD we want to make sure that you have a safe vehicle to take you to and from work. The last thing that our healthcare workers need to worry about is their vehicle breaking down or not having the proper maintenance. So if you’re a healthcare worker in need of vehicle maintenance or services stop by any of our 29 dealerships.
“We are committed to support our communities and show our appreciation to those who are risking their lives every day to save lives and battle this virus. It is essential that these workers have reliable private transportation to get them to hospitals and medical facilities around our region” –Vince Sheehy
National Walking Day is almost here and at Sheehy Auto Stores, we can’t wait to lace up our walking shoes and get moving through Springfield Town Center! This year’s National Walking Day will be on Wednesday April 1st and we’re encouraging all our loyal customers and members from our local communities to join us for a day of movement from 10AM-12PM at Springfield Town Center. Not only will we be walking through the entire mall, there will be giveaways and prizes and we’ll be learning about different ways to stay active and eat healthy. There will be representatives from the American Heart Association throughout the mall teaching us how to rethink our drink choices, hands only CPR, easy ways to incorporate walking into our daily routines and more!
According to the American Heart Association regular physical activity helps reduce your chance of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol. And for those who already have these conditions, regular physical activity can reduce your chance of having heart attacks and help you live longer. Additionally, physical activity can help lower blood pressure, decrease LDL (bad cholesterol) in your blood, improve your blood sugar, reduce feelings of stress, control body weight, improve your quality of sleep, reduce the time it takes you to fall asleep, improve your memory, reduce the risk of dementia and depression and ultimately make you feel good about yourself!
There are so many benefits to staying active and its never too late to get started! One of the easiest ways to get started on your physical activity journey is simply to start walking to more. According the AHA, for every hour of brisk walking, life expectancy for some people may increase by two hours. They recommend getting at least 150 minutes of lively walking in every week.
While 150 minutes may seem daunting, you can break this up into short walks throughout your day. It can be as easy as taking a quick walk around your building at lunch, walking the dog, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, take the kids to the park or playground or simply parking further away from the entrance to your office, the grocery store, restaurants etc.! Another great way to get your steps in for the day is to join us and the American Heart Association at Springfield Town Center on Wednesday April 1st from between 10AM and 12PM!
The holiday season is here and at Sheehy Auto Stores that means that it’s time for our annual Toy Drive that benefits the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program! Each year all 29 of our Sheehy Auto Stores dealerships collect new and unused toys that get delivered to children in all our communities, whose families can’t afford new toys over the holidays. This year the Sheehy Auto Stores Toys for Tots Toy Drive will be from November 18th to December 2nd and we’re so excited to be participating in this amazing program.
The Toys for Tots program not only helps to bring joy to underprivileged children and families in all our communities but also helps to build self esteem in these children. According to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program there are about 15 million children in America who live in poverty and studies show that living in poverty can have an adverse psychological impact on these children. According to these studies, children who grow up living in poverty typically have lower self-esteem and wind up having to depend on their communities and for support their entire lives. The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program is aimed at helping raise the self esteem of these children by providing them with toys for Christmas. By receiving these gifts from the Marines, these children will feel excited and included with their peers while also having role models to look up to. The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program is a passive mentoring program that works to empower the children of America and everyone at Sheehy Auto Stores is so honored that we can help support their mission.
All 29 of our Sheehy Auto Stores locations will be collecting toys from November 18th to December 2nd so make sure to stop by any of our dealerships to donate a new and unused toy.

At Sheehy Auto Stores we are thrilled to announce that our Annual Fall Food Drive has begun! From October 28th to November 17th all 29 Sheehy Auto Stores dealerships will be collecting non-perishable foods and canned goods to support local food banks in their communities.
Food insecurity is a big problem in the US, especially during the holidays. According to the USDA there were 37.2 million people including 6 million children in the United States that were living in food-insecure households in 2018. At Sheehy Auto Stores we want to do our part to help the families and individuals in our communities who are going through tough times and experiencing food insecurity.
“With the support of each of our dealerships, our employees and the community we hope to help in our efforts to make a difference in collecting food for those less fortunate,” said Vince Sheehy, President and CEO of Sheehy Auto Stores. “We welcome everyone to visit us at any of our locations to join us in this annual campaign.”

This year’s National Walking Day at Springfield Town Center was a huge success! We had so much fun exploring the mall and all the heart healthy stations along the mile-long path. Heart health is so important to ensure a long and enjoyable life and it can be hard to remember to get up and move during the day which is why we love National Walking Day! Not only are we moving and getting a good workout in, we’re also learning about the many different ways to improve our overall health and wellbeing.
Some of our favorite stations were the healthy eating and healthy well being stations where we learned how to snack healthily, rethink our drink choices and cope with the stress in our lives. These stations opened our eyes to how much sugar really is in the different drinks we consume and how to switch to healthier options. We also channeled our inner Michael Scott and learned how to perform hands only CPR, so we can help others to keep “Stayin’ Alive”. While it may feel silly, singing Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees really is the best way to make sure that you’re doing the compressions at the right cadence. Click here to learn more about hands only CPR and how you can make a difference in someone’s life by learning how to do it.
Since not all our stores could come out to Springfield Town Center and join us in walking around the mall we set up the Sheehy Step Challenge! This way we could ensure that all our employees were also taking steps towards healthier lifestyles. While all our stores had a great performance, Sheehy Toyota of Fredericksburg came out on top with 109,676 steps! That’s about 51 miles walked by the Sheehy Toyota of Fredericksburg team! We were blown away by everyone’s performance and are happy to announce that as a company we walked 656,006 steps on Wednesday April 3rd in honor National Walking Day.
We had so much fun during this year’s National Walking Day and want to thank everyone at the American Heart Association for opening our eyes to the importance of heart health and helping us reach our heart healthy goals. We’re so excited for next year’s National Walking Day and are even more excited for the AHA’s Greater Washington Heart Walk at the National Mall in Washington D.C!
Take a step in the right direction with us on Wednesday April 3rd for National Walking Day.
National Walking Day is right around the corner and we’re so excited for this day of movement and physical activity. This year we’ll be celebrating National Walking Day by walking and learning heart healthy tips from the American Heart Association at Springfield Town Center and with our annual Sheehy Step Challenge!
There are tons of fun activities planned at Springfield Town Center including a selfie station with Heart Man, CPR demonstrations, healthy eating and well-being stations, a smoothie station and tons of great prizes and giveaways. Not only will we be learning easy ways to be heart healthy and incorporate healthy foods and activities into our lives, but we’ll also be walking a mile through the mall with American Heart Association volunteers and survivors of strokes and heart attacks. This fantastic event will be going on from 9:30AM-12PM on Wednesday April 3rd at Springfield Town Center and is completely FREE! There’s no better way to learn how to incorporate healthy activities and foods into your life than this National Walking Day event and we’d love to see our loyal customers and members of our community at Springfield Town Center.
Since not all of our stores are located close to Springfield Town Center, they can’t participate in the free and fun event on Wednesday. So, to ensure that all our stores and all our employees are moving and getting heart healthy we’ve created our Sheehy Step Challenge! All 22 of our stores will compete all day on Wednesday April 3rd to see which store can rack up the most steps in a day. The winner of this step challenge will win bragging rights and a gift basket from the American Heart Association full of heart healthy treats. Last year Sheehy Nissan of Glen Burnie won our Sheehy Step Challenge and we’re so excited to see who will come out victorious this year.
What is National Walking Day?
National Walking Day is a day devoted to getting up and moving and doing any kind of physical activity. Whether you walk, run, play a basketball, tennis, baseball or any other sport you’ll be participating in National Walking Day! Communities, individuals, schools, and businesses across the United States will be taking part in National Walking Day this year in an effort to improve their overall health. According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of men, women and children in the United States. Additionally, there are studies that state sitting too much or not participating in physical activities can lead to cardiovascular disease or stroke. The best way to combat cardiovascular diseases is to simply get up and move! So this year, we’re challenging all our loyal customers and members of our communities to take 10 minutes out of your day on Wednesday April 3rd to simply take a walk.
We currently have 22 different dealerships in the Sheehy Auto Stores group, located in many counties and cities across Maryland, the Washington D.C. region and Virginia. Each of these dealerships has a special connection to their local community and are constantly fundraising, sponsoring and collecting donations for the underserved people in their communities.
We love how connected all our stores are to their local communities and people, and are always supportive of their charitable initiatives to their neighborhoods. One of our favorite charitable initiatives of the year is our Annual Giving Campaign. As a part of the Annual Giving Campaign, each of our Sheehy Auto Stores dealerships chooses a non-profit or charity in their community to give a donation to. This year we collectively donated $135,000 to 19 different charities in the Washington D.C., Baltimore and Richmond areas!
“Sheehy Auto Stores is pleased to continue our annual end of the year giving campaign that supports a variety of community causes,” said Vince Sheehy, President of Sheehy Auto Stores. “Our employees and family of dealerships do much throughout the year in donating time and money for many charities in the areas we serve, and we are proud to support these on-going efforts.”
In the Richmond, Virginia market, $22,500 was distributed to:
In the Washington, D.C. area, $55,000 was donated to charities including:
Non-profit organizations in Baltimore, Maryland that received $57,500 included:
Lt. Col. Tony Lindh and his wife Christina have a combined 23 years of active service and are the proud parents on 5-year old Penelope and 4-year old Tripp! Between the two of them they’ve been deployed three times and once even together which they say brought them even closer. While those deployments were tough, nothing is as hard as what they’re going through now. Last year they were blindsided when Tripp was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
The lives of the whole family drastically changed with this diagnosis but that didn’t stop Lt. Col. Tony and Christina Lindh from doing whatever they could to spend time together as a family. When Tripp wasn’t undergoing treatment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, they constantly worked to give both Tripp and Penelope amazing experiences. A lot of these experiences come through the USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore. They’ve been able to meet Miss America 2018 and attend a Nationals Game where they even got to meet some of their favorite players! Through it all Lt. Col. Tony and Christina have been so strong. We’re in awe of how positive they continue to be and how hard they work to give both their children amazing experiences together.
We’re also so happy that the USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore is able to provide the Lindh family these amazing experiences and wanted to do our part to help not only the Lindh family, but the USO as well. Which is why Sheehy Toyota of Fredericksburg and Sheehy Toyota of Stafford came together (with the help of the WUSA Impact team) to surprise the Lindh family with a trip to Disney world! And they didn’t stop there, they also donated $30,000 to the USO’s Salute the Troops Orlando program in honor of the Lindh family. With this donation, now a plane full of military families dealing with life threatening illnesses will get the chance to go to Disney World next year! Scroll down to see the surprise in action and see some behind the scenes photos.
The holiday season is upon us and at Sheehy Auto Stores, that means that it's time for our annual Toys for Tots toy drive! From November 19th to December 10th all 24 of our stores will be collecting new and unwrapped toys as a part of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. All of these toys will be distributed to kids in all our communities whose families can't afford holiday gifts. Make sure to stop by one of our 24 locations to help support families in need this holiday season!
Every year, the American Heart Association puts together the Greater Washington Heart Walk to promote heart health and to get people moving. This year the walk was held on Saturday November 3rd and had tons of different events centered around promoting heart health including a 1 and 3 mile walk, a Zumba class, a dog costume contest, kids activities and more!
Since Sheehy Auto Stores are a sponsor of the American Heart Association, we had a photo booth station set up where people could take their fun memories of the heart walk home with them. This year’s event was a huge success as the American Heart Association raised $2.3 million dollars in support of the AHA Greater Washington Heart Walk! We are so thrilled that the AHA was able to raise that much money to support their cause of reducing the number of deaths caused by cardiovascular disease and stroke.

On September 28th, 2018 a Climbing for ROMP team of 14 amputees and 8 non-amputees attempted to climb to the top of Ecuador’s Cotopaxi Mountain! The 19,347-foot mountain is one of the highest active volcanoes in the world and is located south of Quito, Ecuador. While most of the amputees were from the United States, 4 of them were from Ecuador. We’re incredibly happy to announce that this elite ROMP team successfully had 19 of the 22 people reach the top of the mountain!
ROMP (Range of Motion Project) is a non-profit organization whose goal is to provide amputees in underserved populations with the opportunity to enhance their mobility by providing them with the highest quality prosthetic care possible. ROMP believes that amputees aren’t disabled because of a missing limb but by a missing prosthetic and go above and beyond to provide as many amputees with limbs as possible. Whether it’s refurbishing old components, buying new prosthesis or even inventing new components ROMP does whatever it takes to get their patients whatever they need.
Our Sheehy Toyota of Fredericksburg store are huge supporters of ROMP and their Climbing for ROMP program. They’re constantly working to help this program and this year their $2,500 donation to ROMP enabled 5 people to get high quality prosthetic care! At Sheehy, we love our communities and especially love giving back and supporting the people in our many areas. Without our communities and all our loyal customers, we would not be as successful as we are. So, when Sheehy Toyota of Fredericksburg heard that Stafford Junction, a non-profit that serves over 200 underprivileged children and families in our community, was in need of a new van they jumped on the opportunity to help!
Stafford Junction:
Stafford Junction is small non-profit that started off as an after-school tutoring program for at-risk youth and has quickly morphed into a support system for whole families throughout the Fredericksburg and Stafford areas. Not only do they provide after-school care and tutoring, they also help families get supplemental food help, nutrition coaching and transportation services.
They drive kids, adults and families to doctors’ appointments, after school activities like basketball, baseball and wrestling and even help get people with no cars to church on Sundays! Stafford Junction’s bus was their lifeline that enabled them to help families throughout the area. Unfortunately, it died over the summer leaving Stafford Junction and over 200 families in the community without access to food, school, after school care and so much more.
Freshman football player at Stafford High School, Neycer Vasquez, was a part of Stafford Junction’s tutoring program and went from having academic problems to being an academic role model for his little sister. And his mother Beatriz, relied on Stafford Junction to drive her to doctors’ appointments after she was diagnosed with cancer. Stafford Junction is truly an amazing organization.
Sheehy Steps Up:
When our partners at WUSA told us about Stafford Junction’s huge loss, we knew we had to do whatever we could to help get them back up and running. With a little help from the Invisible Hand Foundation, we were able to donate two minivans filled with thousands of dollars’ worth of school supplies! Some of the supplies included pencils, pens, printers, paper, snacka and even graphing calculators that the older students desperately needed. Scroll down to watch and learn even more about this amazing donation.
Each year The Ford Motor Company Top Volume Dealer Hall of Fame recognizes a very select group of Ford dealers who have been the dealer principal at a high performing dealership for 25 years or more and are known as outstanding retailers and community leaders. "We are very pleased to recognize Vince Sheehy with this prestigious award," said Mark LaNeve, Vice President - Marketing Sales & Service, Ford U.S.
"The entire dealership team at Sheehy Auto Stores is honored to be recognized as a Ford Top Volume Hall of Fame dealer," said Vince Sheehy. "We continuously strive for excellence in delivering an outstanding dealership experience to all our customers and are committed to making a real difference in our community. We are sincerely grateful to receive this honor from Ford Motor Company."
At Sheehy Auto Stores, we care about the communities we are located in and are constantly looking for ways to give back. One of our biggest fundraisers of the year is also our biggest sales race of the year--the Sheehy 8000! As a part of our annual Sheehy 8000 sales race, we sell 8,000 cars in 50 days and raise money to donate to the American Heart Association. This year the sales contest ran from May 12th to July 5th and during the contest period we hit a record donation amount of $285,000! We also held community events including heart-healthy cooking and food demonstrations as well as CPR demonstrations.
"This year was a milestone for us and we are grateful for the support from our customers, communities and team members that have made this campaign such a success," said Vince Sheehy, President of Sheehy Auto Stores. "We are proud to support such a great organization that does so much to educate and help prevent the risk of heart disease and stroke."
Our support of the American Heart Association extends beyond the Sheehy 8000. For the past several years, we have been a sponsor and active partner at the National Walking Day event held on the first Wednesday in April at Springfield Town Center, to promote walking and a heart-healthy lifestyle. In addition, each of our Sheehy dealerships held their own step challenges among employees that day.
"We are so grateful to the Sheehy Auto Stores family, their partners and customers for another record-breaking year!," said Michelle Nostheide, Vice President, American Heart Association. "The funds and awareness raised during the Sheehy 8000 will go a long way in furthering our life-saving mission in our communities." Last year during our Sheehy 7000 campaign we raised $225,000 for the American Heart Association in their mission to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. And throughout our 50-year history we have been fundraising to better our communities and have raised more than $40 million for community non-profits.

American Heart Association and Sheehy Auto Stores Spread Message of Fitness and Fun
National Walking Day is Wednesday, April 5, and for the second year in a row Sheehy Auto Stores and the American Heart Association are teaming up to help encourage people to lace up and walk! They will be hosting a prize-filled walking course at the Springfield Town Center from 10:30 a.m. -- 1 p.m. on April 5th. The event is free for every and anyone to participate and will begin at the Grand Court entrance near the Starbucks (6500 Springfield Center Drive, Springfield Virginia).
Cardiovascular disease and strokes are the No. 1 and No. 5 top killers in the nation, yet studies have suggested that moderate physical activity can help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke by lowering blood pressure, increasing HDL or "good" cholesterol and controlling weight. For this reason, the American Heart Association recommends that adults participate in at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity, 75 minutes of vigorous intensity physical activity or a combination of both each week. Walking is one of the easiest and most popular ways to get your recommended physical activity in. Statistics even show that people stick to walking plans more than other forms of physical activity.
Sheehy Auto Stores has been committed to promoting walking and heart health awareness in the community for years. "We are proud to once again support the American Heart Association as a partner of this important event," said Vince Sheehy, President of Sheehy Auto Stores. "It is great to be involved with a cause that takes steps to teach the community how to prevent heart disease and stroke." Not only is Sheehy Auto taking steps to help better the health and welfare of their community, they are also taking steps to improve the health of their employees, by providing them all with pedometers. These pedometers will help employees who can't be at the walk track their steps, and the store that racks up the most steps will win a heart healthy lunch from the American Heart Association!
In addition to the walking course, the American Heart Association will have several education stations that feature learning the lifesaving skill, Hands-Only CPR; a Simple Cooking with Heart demo to exhibit that healthy cooking is both easy and inexpensive; a What's in my Vending Machine exhibit to teach people what healthy options are available on the go, and more. Stores at the Springfield Town Center will participate with gift cards, prize baskets and other raffle items. And the ever-popular Sheehy Storm Tracker will be on site live streaming the whole event! All walkers across the region are encouraged to share their walking selfies on Twitter and Instagram, using #WalkingDayDC, and tagging @HeartofGWR on Twitter. To get more information about National Walking Day, more hearth healthy tips and to register for your free toolkit go to heart.org/nationalwalkingday.
Sheehy Auto Stores donated more than $376,000 to charities throughout Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Maryland and Richmond, Virginia in 2016 as part of the company's giving initiatives that also included sponsorships, in-store events, and holiday food and toy drives.
Sheehy's annual sales campaign, the Sheehy 7000, raised $225,000 for the American Heart Association and included several community outreach initiatives such as speakers, giveaways, CPR training and event sponsorships. Internally, Sheehy team members participated in Lunch & Learn events where they benefited from healthy cooking demonstrations, CPR training and other heart healthy tips.
Throughout the year, Sheehy dealerships support various charities, schools and organizations through sponsorships and hosting numerous events such as Drive 4 UR School events whereby money is donated to a partner school for each test drive completed, pet adoption days and Ride of the Patriots. In December, Sheehy wrapped up successful holiday donation drives, collecting more than 700 pounds of food to benefit Feeding America and hundreds of toys for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program.
Sheehy Auto Stores ended the year with donations of $161,000 distributed among 23 charities throughout the communities they serve in Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Richmond, Virginia. The donations are part of Sheehy's Annual Giving Program whereby each dealership partners with local non-profit organizations.

Sheehy Auto Stores kicked off Sheehy 7000 with a breakfast. All stores joined the breakfast to mark the kickoff of the Sheehy 7000. We had a motivational speaker, Joe Edwards, retired fighter pilot, test pilot, and NASA astronaut (pictured bottom right with Vince Sheehy). Everyone was very excited for the annual sales race and to increase our goals for both the number of units sold and donations raised for the American Heart Association every year. Last year it was the Sheehy 6000 and our goal was to sell 6,000 cars. This year it was the Sheehy 7000 so our goal was to sell 7,000 units- we exceeded both our sales & donations goals in 2016. We are already looking forward to next year?s race!
At the end of the event, Vince Sheehy presented to the American Heart Association with a check for $225,000!

The Capital Area Food Bank reached out to Northern Virginia business leaders to begin a dialogue about how to better work collaboratively to end hunger. Once businesses understood the state of hunger in the region, they were anxious to play a larger role in hunger alleviation efforts.
In little time, many stepped up and demonstrated their corporate citizenship. Just last week, 25 super energetic employees from the Sheehy Auto Stores family of dealerships descended on the CAFB's Lorton Warehouse where they sorted over 18,000 pounds of meat in 2 hours!
The CAFB is unwavering in when it comes to nourishing the community with nutrient-rich foods, as evidenced by the 17.5 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables distributed last year. Thus, when large quantities of meat - packed full of protein - are donated, it is critical to quickly get it to people in need.
However, the process for collecting and distributing meat is a considerable challenge. Combined with short shelf lives, meats also need to be separated by type - pork, beef, chicken, turkey, venison, lamb, fish and sides.
With the help of volunteers like Sheehy, all 18,000 protein-packed pounds gets sorted and out into the community the very next day. Thanks Sheehy! The Capital Area Food Bank is partnering with organizations of all sizes in helping reduce hunger in the region. Contact CAFB to learn more about these emerging opportunities.
